Contribute is a free social impact platform built for the Zimbabwean and broader African community. We empower individuals and organizations to run and support fundraising campaigns for meaningful causes. This Privacy Notice (“Notice”) explains how we collect, use, share, and protect your personal information when you use our services.

By accessing or using Contribute, you agree to the terms of this Notice. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform.

Note: This Notice is based on Zimbabwe’s Cyber and Data Protection Act (2021) and aligned with African and global data protection standards, including the Malabo Convention and GDPR (where applicable).

A Free and Transparent Platform

Contribute is 100% free to use.

  • We do not charge any platform, hosting, or subscription fees.
  • The only cost is the standard bank or mobile transfer fee, which is deducted only when the campaign owner withdraws funds.
  • These are fees charged by your financial service provider (e.g., banks, mobile money operators) — not by Contribute.

Information We Collect

We only collect personal data necessary to operate and improve our services.

1. Information You Provide

You may give us personal information when you:

  • Start or contribute to a campaign
  • Apply for funding
  • Contact us for support

This may include:

  • Full name
  • Phone number
  • Email address
  • National ID number (if applicable)
  • Physical address
  • Bank or mobile money details
  • Any information relevant to your campaign or donation
2. Information from Third Parties

We may collect information from third-party services (e.g., EcoCash, Paynow, PayPal) if you authorize them to share it with us.

This may include:

  • Transaction reference numbers
  • Donation amounts and timing
  • Contact information
3. Automatically Collected Data

We collect limited technical data when you visit our site, including:

  • Device and browser type
  • IP address
  • Approximate location (city/country)
  • Usage patterns (e.g., time spent, pages visited)

How We Use Your Information

We use your data to:

  • Process donations and withdrawals
  • Communicate with donors and campaign owners
  • Monitor platform performance and usage
  • Prevent fraud and enhance security
  • Comply with legal and financial regulations

We only process your data where legally permitted — based on consent, contractual necessity, legal obligation, or legitimate interest.

How We Share Your Information

We never sell your personal data. We only share it when necessary, such as:

1. Service Providers

We work with payment processors, financial institutions, and IT providers. These entities are given only the data necessary to fulfill their duties and are required to protect your information.

2. Legal Requirements

We may disclose your data to law enforcement, tax authorities, or regulators if required by law, or to protect against fraud, legal claims, or abuse.

3. Withdrawal Processing

If you withdraw campaign funds, your basic personal details may be shared with financial institutions to complete the transaction.

4. With Your Consent

We may share your data with partners or collaborators (e.g., for joint fundraising campaigns), but only with your explicit permission.

Cross-Border Data Transfers

We may store or process your data outside Zimbabwe (e.g., in secure cloud servers in South Africa or Europe). When we do, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place in line with Zimbabwean law and international standards.

Your Rights

You may have the right to:

  • Access your personal data
  • Correct inaccuracies
  • Delete your data (unless required for legal or financial reasons)
  • Object to specific processing
  • Withdraw consent at any time
  • Request data portability (where applicable)

To make a request, contact us at privacy@contribute.gift. We may verify your identity before fulfilling the request. We aim to respond within 30 days.

If you believe your data rights have been violated, you may lodge a complaint with the Zimbabwe Information and Data Protection Authority (ZIDPA) or your local data regulator.

How Long We Keep Your Data

We retain personal data only as long as needed for:

  • Platform and campaign operations
  • Legal and financial recordkeeping
  • Fraud prevention

After this, your data is either securely deleted or anonymized.

Our platform may link to external sites (e.g., payment gateways or NGO partners). We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices. Please review their privacy notices separately.

Children’s Privacy

Contribute is not designed for children under 16. If we discover a child has submitted personal data, we will delete it promptly.

Changes to This Privacy Notice

We may update this Notice as laws or our services evolve. Major updates will be posted on www.contribute.gift. Continued use of the platform implies acceptance of the updated policy.
